It’s officially autumn but…

In July when I was visiting family in the USA I bought some balls of the good old fashioned “Sugar n’ Cream” and “Peaches n’ Cream” cotton yarn and experimented with making some washcloths and a bag. The colors are bright and cheerful. I took photos way back then and decided to save them for my blog for right now. Right now when the weather is getting cooler, there is not so much sun, and I’m working all the time at my day job! Here’s a picture I took back in July of my finished cotton bag:

It’s really easy to make. You need 1 ball of Sugar n’ Cream cotton in orange and another in yellow. The body of the bag is crocheted in the round and then the strap is added as an after-thought with some slip stitching to attach it to the bag — no sewing required! Gauge is not critical here. I just used a hook that felt comfortable for the yarn for my style of crocheting and got a bag that’s about seven inches in diameter. Choose your favorite bright colors to substitute the orange and the yellow if you prefer! This is a great bag to make to put gift things into for someone (like soap, lotion, etc.)

Here’s the pattern for it if you want to make one and relive the brightness of summer:

  • With orange (or CC A) make a magic ring and 9 sc into ring; sl. st. into first sc
  • R1: 2 sc in each sc around, end with sl st in first sc; 18 sc
  • R2: ch2, 1 sc in first sc; 2 sc in each sc around; end sl st in beg ch2; 36 sc
  • R3: ch 3; 1 dc in each sc around; end sl st in top of beg ch3
  • R4: ch 3, 1 dc in first dc; 2 dc in each dc around; 72 dc
  • R5: ch 3; *dc in top loops of next dc, rep from * around, end sl st in top of beg ch 3 with yellow (CC B)
  • R6: With yellow (or CC B) ch 3 and dc in each dc around, end sl st in top of beg ch 3
  • R7: rep R6, but en sl st in top of beg ch 3 with orange (or CC A)
  • R8: with CC A ch 3, dc in each dc around, end sl st in top of beg ch 3 with yellow (or CC A)
  • R9: rep R7
